Be INSPIRING! Be ENCOURAGING! Be the DIFFERENCE.
Hello, FAAmily! My name is Mallory Neel, and I am the counselor here at FAA. I have been in WSISD for 11 years. I spent 7 years at BMS: 2 as an 8th grade science teacher and 5 as the counselor. This is my 4th year as the FAA counselor. I have two children: Josie (4) and Slade (2). I absolutely believe I have the best job at the best school in the universe! Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any needs, questions, or concerns.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
1st 6 Weeks
We will be reading The Recess Queen and discussing how to be school "royalty." What do good kings and queens do/say? How do they treat others? Your student will be coming home with a gold crown as a reminder about how to act as FAA royalty!
We will be building our "I AM" wall located just outside of the front office.
My inspiration came from the following video:
Modified for each grade level, we will be focusing on kindness, acceptance, eliminating stereotypes, and appreciating the differences in others.
2nd 6 Weeks
Red Ribbon Week lessons - healthy lifestyles choices, anti-drug week activities
3rd 6 Weeks
All grade levels begin our 3 part college/career exploration. We will be discussing our educational career journey, college/career options after high school, college information, and "adulting" responsibilities. Students watched a clip from Monsters University as a video of the book, Mahalia Mouse Goes to College. We discussed some unfamiliar college vocabulary (commencement, dorm, etc).
4th 6 Weeks
February is Choose Kind month for WSISD. We will focus on everything kind! Lots of fun activities scheduled - Kindness Bingo challenge, dress up days, and lots of treats and surprises are in store! For the counselor guidance lessons, students will be pledging to choose kind, working with kindness quotes, and talking about bringing kindness into action at FAA!
5th 6 Weeks
Part 2 of our college/career lessons. We will be using a website titled Texas Reality Check to learn about occupations and costs of living. This is a super fun way to see what it is really like as a productive adult!
6th 6 Weeks
Part 3 of our college/career study. We will be exploring a website on college virtual tours to further our knowledge on life after high school. All students will choose a college and design a pendant of the college of their choosing. Students will be able to research facts about the college (location, mascot, colors, etc) and write it on the back of the pendant as an advertisement of the college.
